The wheels rolled and the whistle sounded. Not long ago, a batch of car parts arrived at Tianjin Port by sea and were transported to countries such as Kazakhstan through intermodal “transfer” trains from Tianjin Xingang North Railway Container Center Station.
As the flagship project and landmark brand of jointly building the “the Belt and Road”, China Europe Express is favored by many foreign trade enterprises with its efficient and stable transportation capacity. At present, the China Europe (Central Asia) freight trains in Tianjin have achieved full coverage of the three channels in the east, center, and west. With the unique advantages of Tianjin Port, sea rail intermodal transportation has become a major feature of Tianjin’s freight trains.
“Compared with other port cities, the railway transportation distance between Tianjin and Khorgos, Alataw Pass and other ports is relatively short, and the advantages of sea and land two-way resources are obvious.” Wang Huan, general manager of Tianjin Dongjiang International Train Operation Management Co., Ltd., said, “As the China Europe Train Operation Management Platform, this year, we will increase efforts to run trains in the direction of Central Asia, and actively promote the sea rail combined transport business. In addition, we have signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Russian railway suppliers, which will further improve the railway transport service level of trains at the overseas end.”
From January to July this year, Tianjin Customs supervised the shipment of 417 China Europe (Central Asia) trains carrying 45000 TEUs of goods, with a year-on-year increase of 17.3% in the number of TEUs. Among them, 39000 TEUs of sea rail intermodal goods were shipped.
Currently, more and more Chinese made daily necessities and mechanical products are “sitting” on trains to go abroad. The staff of Tianjin Xingang Customs told reporters that under the “Railway Express” mode, the data of customs, railways, and operating enterprises have been interconnected. Operating enterprises can complete all procedures at the origin customs “one-stop”. After the goods arrive at the port, there is no need to handle customs transfer. After completing the railway reloading, they can leave the country, effectively shortening the detention time of goods at the port.
In addition, taking advantage of the policy advantages of comprehensive bonded zones and pilot free trade zones, Tianjin continues to innovate its train transportation mode. Starting from 2022, the “bonded+” series of characteristic trains will be smoothly launched. With the support of policies in the comprehensive bonded zone, enterprises can enjoy export tax rebates in advance and accelerate the return of funds. This model has also been selected as the best practice case in 2023 for the comprehensive pilot demonstration of expanding the opening up of the national service industry.
With the successful approval of the North China China Europe Train Assembly Center, Tianjin’s deep integration into the “the Belt and Road” initiative adds strong support. Smooth sailing on the ‘Steel Silk Road’, the international cooperation card of China Europe freight trains will shine even brighter.
